ipower.com has the worst domain system anywhere!
Posted by: Pauls Brain in Working OnlineA year or so ago I made a mistake!
I am not to much of a man to admit that I made the mistake, but I sure do wish that a year later it wasn’t still causing me butt ache!
I used ipower.com to register some domains!
I admit it, they were cheap and I fell for it, but now I am paying!
Their interface is horrible, all I want to do is stop my domains auto renewing and so far it has taken me a hour and I am still thinking that the easiest way may be just to cancel the card I used to pay for them.
I should not have to cancel my debit card just so I can’t be billed for something I don’t want!
I know ipower are “updating” their process, but in my opinion it still isn’t up to it.
You can also choose not to renew your domain name. To do so,
simply opt out of the Automated Domain Renewal System
So when I log in I expect to see something that says “domain renewal” or even “automated domain renewal”
no such luck..
oh and the really bad news..
I registered this domain there and want to keep this, do I am going to have to try and move it to namecheap who are the best domain register.
Ok rant over for now..
Take this as a warning, it isn’t worth saving a dollar or two if you then have to spend hours trying to fix the butt ache that this can be.

Funny you should post this, I spent an hour or so on the live chat with one of their reps last night because of how the system is setup. They have updated the system, but the domains are still really regulated by tucows so to get the changes made that I needed I had to login to the system at http://manage.opensrs.net. At first the support person told me I had to “upgrade” to one of their hosting packages to be able to manage my account. I luckily managed to get around that with her without my head exploding.
I think you got your domains there the same time I did when I was buying bulk .coms, I am busy transferring the domains I did develop out to another registrar.
I cant figure out if you did see the way to disable the autorenew or not but here is the path if you didn’t:
Login to vpanel
Under domains go to “Domain Central”
Check the domains that you want to change then click “Modify Selected Domains”
Select Enable/Disable Auto-renewal from the radio and click “Disable Auto Renew for selected domains”
A real pain of all your domains are each under a different account.
